May brings Spring showers, thunderstorms and cold snaps. The Sun shines bright one day and not the next. The birds are busy building nests in the fake ficus by the front door.
And I NEED a vacation to warmer climates.
Soooo, We headed west to parts unknown and known. We find ourselves walking around Santa Fe
soaking up sun and culture. My artistic well is getting filled.
I feel the tickle of a need to pick up some pencils and paint brushes.
Who knows what I'll be doing when we return home!
Stay tuned......

Frida Kahlo, Studio Art Quilt
The picture on the left is it's official portrait. The one on the right is a photo taken in my studio.
This quilt originally started out as a fabric altered art book. All the while that I was making the book, I kept thinking it would be better as a paneled Studio Art Quilt.
When the book was finished , it went on exhibit.
I became concerned with wear and tear from all the handling. After it came home I deconstructed it and remade it into a Studio Wall Quilt.

Last Page Spreads in My Book of Red........-Adult Viewer Discretion Advised
Red Rose Bouquet
Chinese Red
Flaming Red Hot and Hot Spice Red
I've been working on completing My Book of Red.
The last paint swatch names I chose to work with were Red Rose Bouquet, Chinese Red , Flaming Red Hot and Hot Spice Red.
As I culled through my labeled folders of saved imagery, I waited for my Muse to strike. The spread for Red Rose Bouquet was rather tame I thought but nothing else seemed to present itself.
I like creating pockets in my books when I'm getting to the back of the book. If any more subject appropriate art presents itself I have a place to store it. With this in mind I crafted the pockets and then considered how I should use the pockets for the last titles.
The Chinese red was fairly routine. The envelope on the left side will hold some altered art paper dolls I created.
How could I know that my Muse would show her sense of humor when it came to selecting images for Flaming Red Hot and Hot Spic Red? I gathered pictures of flames and spice cans thinking I might take a culinary route.
But "Oh No," she said.
"It's time to straighten the small drawer of transparencies."
I pulled out the drawer and came across a transparency of lovely nudes I had purchased several years ago. On my desk was some french imagery I had been sorting through earlier.
Well, the connection hit me, French Postcards of course!
